HISTORIC WINDJAMMER SAILING

Relive the excitement and adventure of a bygone era. The historic German Windjammer Sailing Ship "Alexander von Humboldt" is now located in Freeport, taking cruise line guests on three hour voyages along the coast of the island. Boarding this famous tall ship, known world-wide for its green sails is like a step back in time. You will be greeted by the captain and crew and may be seated on deck. While the lines are cast off you may listen to the introduction and history of the "Alex". Then watch as the young sailors climb the riggings and release the sails by hand, employing century old skills. You may join them in pulling the ropes from the deck or simply take pictures. Join the captain at the helm and look forward towards the bow of this 205 ft. long Windjammer as the vessel glides through the crystalclear waters of the Bahamas. You will have the opportunity for a guided your of the ship where you visit the mess hall decorated with plaques from ports around the world, the communication and radar room and the Captain's Salon. Refreshments and snacks are available for purchase as well as original "Alexander von Humboldt" souvenirs. Upon returning to the harbor you will receive a certificate of having sailed this historic Tall Ship.
